WWW Wednesday- 26th July

It’s WWW Wednesday time again! Here’s my contribution to the weekly meme, hosted by Taking on a World of Words.

26TH JULY.jpg

1.What are you currently reading?
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling- Yes, I FINALLY got around to continuing with my Harry Potter reread and… LOOK HOW PRETTY THE ILLUSTRATED EDITION IS!! Enough said.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien- I’m not even going to pretend I’ve read more than ten pages this past week…

2. What did you recently finish reading?
Stranger by David Bergen- Another one I read for The Book Bag, where you can read my full review. I loved the premise of this book- a young Guatemalan woman falls pregnant by an American doctor, who then takes the child, forcing her to head to the US with hopes of rescuing her daughter- and the political points it made about how Western societies treat immigrants were sadly spot on. My only complaint would be that I felt the last few pages of the novel weren’t needed, as it had already reached a natural conclusion, yet Bergen then felt the need to add in an extra, final twist- totally unnecessary in a book that already contains many changes of tone. That being said, I’d urge anyone who feels unsympathetic towards immigrants, or doesn’t understand the hardships may of them face in order to reach the US, to read this book. Íso’s journey really is incredible, and it raises many issues about how far a Mother would go to save her child.

3. What do you think you will read next?
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling- Because it would be a crime not to read the series in order!

Amazingly, given it only feels like two days since last week’s post, that’s it for another WWW Wednesday. Why don’t you comment what you’re reading this week, or even add your own post to the tag?
